GST is wonderful and state of the art. However, rates for essential goods like textiles and its raw materials PTA, etc should be kept low.

gst is only a window dressing of old tax system.in poit of view of govt. its easier to control and more benefacial for enduser but fact is that it will increase value of goods e.g.right now e.d is 8%, s.t is 10% and vat is 4%, but as per new rule SGST(VAT)would be 10% and CGST will also increase to 10% for example only.and no CENVAT credit will be available within SGST and CGST,same problem will remain of cascading effect of tax.e.g a goods price is 100.
under old rule.
goods 100
E,duty@8% 8
total 108
VAT@4% 4.32
total 112.32

under proposed rule
goods 100
CGST 10
SGST 10
Total 120
now u decide which one is better in point of view of consumer
